Salvatoris Beatae Mariae Virginis Sanctorum Apostolorum Icones is a 1631 by Jacques Callot, a Baroque work, held at Cleveland Museum of Art.
This is a black-and-white print of a robed figure with long hair and a beard. One hand points upward while the other holds a round object with a cross on it. Behind him, a few small scenes show people near a cross and a hillside. The artist used deep shadows and strong contrasts to make the figure stand out. The background looks simple, but the light around the figure feels dramatic. Look up chiaroscuro to see how this technique works in other art.
Jacques Callot was a baroque printmaker and draftsman from the Duchy of Lorraine.
