About this work

This print shows a shipwrecked boat on rocky shores, surrounded by rough waves. A lone survivor clings to a tree trunk on the left, while a few scattered figures wander the shore. In the background, a distant city sits on a hill, half-hidden by fog. The scene is dark and dramatic, with sharp lines and deep shadows. The artist used a mix of etching and engraving to create the texture—notice how the waves and rocks have fine, scratchy details. The Latin text at the bottom adds a layer of meaning, but it’s hard to read without help. Next, check out the technique: etching, drypoint, aquatint.
