About this work

This engraving shows a busy night scene with angels flying above shepherds. The angels have wings and play instruments while floating in the sky. Below, two shepherds sit on a hillside, one holding a staff and the other pointing at the angels. Sheep are scattered around them, and the ground looks rocky with some bushes. The artist used fine lines to create shadows and texture, giving the scene depth. This kind of detailed line work is called cross-hatching. Next, check out technique: engraving, cross-hatching.
