Collection of Various Caprices and New Designs of Cartouches and Ornaments: No. 4 is a 1646 by Stefano Della Bella, a Baroque work, held at Cleveland Museum of Art.
This drawing shows a fancy, swirling frame with a blank center. Two lions sit on either side, facing outward like guards. Above them, a crown and feathers add a royal touch. The lines are crisp and detailed, with some shading to give depth. The empty space in the middle suggests this was meant as a template—something to copy or fill in later. The lions and crown hint at power or nobility, but the focus is on the design itself. If you like ornate frames, look up Baroque next.
Stefano della Bella (18 May 1610 – 12 July 1664) was an Italian draughtsman and printmaker known for etchings of a great variety of subjects, including military and court scenes, landscapes, and lively genre scenes.
