This engraving shows a woman in fancy 17th-century clothes. Her dress has deep pleats and ruffles at the neck and wrists. A dark background makes her light hair and pale face stand out. One hand rests on her chest, the other holds a fan. The artist used tiny lines to build up shadows and texture, like lace and fabric folds. This is called cross-hatching. Look up technique: engraving to see how artists create depth with just lines.
