archaeological fragment, painting, is a 1850 paint by Unknown, held at ethnographic museum.
This faded cloth shows two very different sides. On the left, there’s a repeating pattern of brown and cream squares, some forming shapes like steps or zigzags. The fabric looks worn, with patches of discoloration and small tears. On the right, there are rows of black birds with white markings, perched against a plain brown background. The birds all face the same way, as if lined up in order. The patterns on the left side feel geometric, almost like a puzzle, while the birds look more like they were painted by hand.
