Royal Elephant Ramkali with a Mahout is a 1761 unspecified by Unknown, a mughal_painting work, depicting udaipur, held at Cleveland Museum of Art.
A woman in a red turban guides a huge gray elephant at a fast walk. The elephant’s name, Ramkali, is painted in neat letters at the top. Bells on her harness jingle as she moves. This is one of many portraits of royal elephants from Udaipur in the 1700s. Each elephant had a name and a driver, like Ramkali and her mahout. Elephants were symbols of power, so the king kept careful records of them. To see more animals from the same royal stables, look up *rajput kingdom of mewar*.
