Catherine prépare le tub et Louise nue se coiffe (Catherine Prepares the Bath and Louise, Nude, Fixes her Hair) is a 1895 ink by Suzanne Valadon, a Impressionism work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This sketch shows two women in a simple, plain room. One stands with her back to us, arms raised as if fixing her hair. The other sits on a chair, legs bent, looking down. The lines are rough and dark, with some areas scratched into the paper for shading. The paper has a textured look, like the artist used a soft, squishy tool to make the marks. This was a test print, not the final version. Want to see more? Look up etching to see how artists use acid and needles to create these kinds of prints.
