The Fortune teller is a 1621 paint by Valentin de Boulogne, held at Gemäldegalerie Berlin.
The painting depicts a group of people gathered around a woman, who is dressed in a headscarf and robe. The scene is set in a dimly lit room, with the figures illuminated by a single light source. The woman at the center of the painting appears to be telling the fortunes of the people surrounding her. Her facial expression is serious, and her eyes are cast downward as if she is concentrating on the task at hand. The people around her are all engaged in the activity, some looking on with interest, others with skepticism. This painting is reminiscent of the work of Valentin de Boulogne, who was known for his use of chiaroscuro to create dramatic lighting effects in his paintings.
Valentin de Boulogne (before 3 January 1591 – 19 August 1632), sometimes referred to as Le Valentin, was a French painter in the tenebrist style.
