Pier on the Garonne, Bordeaux (Embarcadère sur la Garonne, Bordeaux) is a 1897 by Auguste Lepère, a Impressionism work, held at Cleveland Museum of Art.
This sketch shows a busy river scene with a woman in fancy clothes standing on a pier. She wears a big hat with feathers and holds a bouquet of flowers. Behind her, ships and boats float on the water, and a small wooden building sits near the shore. The woman’s outfit looks old-fashioned, with lots of lace and ruffles. The artist used soft colors and quick brushstrokes to show the light on the water and buildings. Look up Realism next to see how artists like this one captured everyday life.
Louis-Auguste Lepère (30 November 1849 – 20 November 1918) was a French painter and etcher. Lepère is also considered a leader in the creative revival of wood engraving in Europe.
