Pantheum Romanum [The Roman Pantheon] is a 1549 ink by Nicolas Beatrizet, a Renaissance work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This is a black-and-white drawing of a grand round building with a huge dome and tall columns. The walls are made of bricks, and the roof has deep grooves. Two lions lie on pedestals in front of the entrance, and a banner above the door has Latin writing. This engraving looks like a detailed map of an old Roman temple. The artist used fine lines to show every brick and shadow. Next, look up engraving to see how artists create these precise prints.
