A Message Concerning the White King's Marriage is a 1502 ink by Hans Burgkmair the Elder, a Renaissance work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This black-and-white woodcut shows three figures in a grand room with tall, carved doors. The person on the right stands on a raised platform, holding a scroll and pointing toward the left. The two figures below look up at them, one kneeling and the other standing. The room has detailed moldings, columns, and a window with swirling designs. The central figure’s gesture suggests they’re delivering an important message. The scene feels formal, almost like a court or ceremony. Want to see more?
