St. Bonaventura; St. Justus; St. Henry, Emperor; St. Antiochus is a 1634 ink by Jacques Callot, a Baroque work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This print shows four oval scenes, each with a saint or historical figure. The top left has a robed man with a winged figure behind him. The top right shows two men in fancy clothes, one holding a hat, with a dog nearby. The bottom left features a crowned figure holding a palm branch, with a small monkey climbing beside him. The bottom right depicts a group of people around a wounded figure on the ground. The figures look like they’re from Bible stories or old legends. The artist used fine lines to create shadows and textures, giving the scenes a dramatic feel. If you like this style, check out the technique: etching.
Jacques Callot was a baroque printmaker and draftsman from the Duchy of Lorraine.
