This print shows a man in a wide-brimmed hat and loose clothes, holding a stick. His back is turned, but you can see his shadowy face and slouched posture. Behind him, two small scenes play out: one with a crowd in a courtyard, the other with people gathered near a building. The man’s hat and baggy clothes suggest he might be a servant or a trickster—a common character in old plays. The tiny scenes in the background look like snapshots of daily life, packed with tiny figures. Next, check out etching to see how artists like Callot carved these sharp lines into metal.
