About this work

This woodcut shows a very large, exaggerated man standing on a street. He’s wearing a fancy fur-lined jacket, a wide-brimmed hat, and boots, with a sword at his side. His face is cheerful, but his body is comically oversized—his belly nearly touches the ground. The tiny town behind him has people walking, dogs running, and a horse-drawn cart. The artist used sharp lines to make everything stand out, especially the man’s big belly and the fur’s texture. Next, look up technique: woodcut to see how this print was made.
