Copy of a detail of the Ghent Altarpiece, The Hermits, by Hubert and Jan van Eyck in the church of St. Bavon, Ghent. is a 1864 watercolor by Christian Schultz, a Impressionism work, held at Victoria and Albert Museum.
This painting shows a group of people outdoors in a garden. A man in a bright red robe stands barefoot in the center, holding a child. Behind him, a crowd of people in simple clothes and hats watches. Tall trees and a bright sky fill the background, with birds flying around. The artist copied a small part of a much bigger, famous painting from the 1400s. This version is simpler and softer, using watercolors instead of thick paint. Want to see more?
