Its documented ownership history begins with Juanita G. Ramsey, also known as Mrs. DeWitt Clinton Ramsey, who resided in Washington, D.C., until her death in 1966.
In 1959, she bequeathed the painting to the United States Naval Academy Museum in Annapolis. The artwork subsequently remained on loan at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., from 1977 until 2010, at which point it was formally transferred to the museum's permanent collection.
The Favorite of the Emir is held in the collection of the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., where it has been displayed as part of the permanent collection since a 2010 gift from the United States Naval Academy Museum. The work was previously on loan to the Gallery from 1977 to 2010, and earlier entered the Naval Academy Museum in 1959 following a gift from Juanita G.
