Parisien commencant a regretter ... la chasse au lion ... is a 1858 ink by Honoré Daumier, a Impressionism work, depicting Hunting, held at National Gallery of Art.
This lithograph shows a hunter on one knee, rifle raised. Three cartoonish lions stare back at him. His face looks worried—maybe he’s realizing hunting isn’t as fun as he thought. Daumier loved poking fun at human mistakes. He often used art to mock risky behaviors or bad ideas. This one makes you laugh while making you think. Honoré-Victorin Daumier was a French painter, sculptor, and printmaker, whose many works offer commentary on the social and political life in France, from the Revolution of 1830 to the fall of the Second French Empire in 1870.
