Un échantillon de ce qu'on appèll...les beaux de paris is a 1840 ink by Honoré Daumier, a Romanticism work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This lithograph shows two Paris men facing off in profile. One wears a top hat, the other a cap. Their sharp noses and chins pop against a blank background. Daumier used this style to mock high society at the time. The thick lines make faces look almost like masks. See how he skewers vanity with a few simple marks. Next, check out more Daumier, Honoré.
Honoré-Victorin Daumier was a French painter, sculptor, and printmaker, whose many works offer commentary on the social and political life in France, from the Revolution of 1830 to the fall of the Second French Empire in 1870.
