Design for a Monument is a 1790 ink by John Flaxman, a Romanticism work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This sketch shows a simple tomb design. A flat stone slab sits on top of a rounded base, with a shield and two small carvings on the sides. The top of the slab has a draped figure lying down, holding a scroll. The drawing uses only pen and gray ink, with no color. The lines are light and sketchy, like a quick idea on paper.
