The Meeting of Gautier, Count of Antwerp, and his Daughter, Violante is a 1787 oil by Giuseppe Cades, a Rococo painting work, held at Art Institute of Chicago.
The painting shows a man and a woman meeting in a room. The woman, Violante, is dressed in nice clothes. She looks happy to see the man, her father. This scene is interesting because it tells a story about a family reunion. The artist used simple details to show their emotions. Look up the technique of chiaroscuro to learn more about how artists like Giuseppe Cades used light and dark.
