Easthampton is a 1917 ink by Childe Hassam, held at National Gallery of Art.
This etching shows a quiet path through tall trees. A wooden building peeks out on the left. Light filters through the leaves, making deep shadows on the ground. Hassam used fine lines to carve the scene. The lines bunch up like woven fabric. This method, called cross-hatching, lets him play with light and dark. Look for the same mood in etchings by Hassam, Childe.
Frederick Childe Hassam was an American Impressionist painter, noted for his urban and coastal scenes.
