This etching shows rolling farmland stretching to a farmhouse and barn. Fine black lines make up the scene. The sky takes up most of the top half, giving the land below a strong pull. Hassam used a needle on metal to scratch this print. The lines catch light and shadow in a way that feels both real and a little dreamy. It’s drypoint, a kind of etching where the needle digs deeper grooves for darker marks. Try looking up Hassam, Childe next.
