The Hedgerow is a 1665 by Johann Heinrich Roos, a Baroque work, held at Cleveland Museum of Art.
This black-and-white etching shows a group of people and animals in a wooded area. A large tree stands in the middle, its trunk detailed with crosshatching. To the right, a man in a hat leans against the tree while another person sits on the ground nearby. On the left, a dog lies down, and a horse stands behind a fence. The scene looks busy but quiet, with lots of texture in the trees and bushes. The artist used lots of lines to create depth, especially in the tree bark and clothing. This style was common in etchings of the time. Look up etching to see how artists like Roos made prints like this.
