The Milkmaid is a 1510 by Lucas van Leyden, a Renaissance work, held at Cleveland Museum of Art.
This black-and-white print shows a farm scene with three cows and two people. The woman on the right stands barefoot, holding a bucket and milking a cow. The man on the left leans on a stick, watching. Trees frame the background, and the ground looks muddy. Notice how the artist uses shading to show depth, especially on the cows’ shapes and the woman’s apron. The lines are sharp but detailed, making the scene feel real.
