The portrait was painted by Marcello Bacciarelli, an Italian artist who spent much of his career in Poland and served as a leading court painter. After remaining in royal collections, the work entered the National Museum in Warsaw, where it is currently conserved and displayed as part of the museum’s Polish art holdings.

Bacciarelli’s tenure in the Polish‑Lithuanian Commonwealth coincided with a period of political reform and cultural exchange. His portraits, including this one, reflect the Enlightenment‑inspired shift toward clarity, rational composition, and an emphasis on the individual’s civic role, aligning with the broader Neoclassical aesthetic spreading across Europe at the time.
