Jean Pierre Camus is a 1740 ink by Claude Mellan, a Baroque work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This is a black-and-white portrait of an older man with a long white beard and serious expression. His hair is short and wavy, and he’s wearing what looks like a dark, folded cloth around his neck. The lines in the image are all made by tiny, repeated strokes—no shading or color, just deep black marks on a light background. The name at the bottom says *Jean Pierre Camus*, and the text notes he died in Paris at age 70. The artist’s name, *Mellan*, is also signed here, but the image itself feels more like a sketch than a painted portrait. If you like this style, look up engraving.
Claude Mellan (1598–1688) was a French artist, born in Abbeville.
