This sketch shows a woman’s face turned slightly away, her hair loose and flowing. One hand holds a tool that looks like a burin—sharp and angled—while her other arm rests on what might be a block of wood. The background is soft and blurred, keeping the focus on her thoughtful expression. The artist used scratching and layering techniques to create the texture. This was a way to build up shadows and lines without paint. Check out etching to see how artists like this made detailed prints.
