Overview

A bust portrait in opaque watercolour and gold on paper depicts a Rajasthani princess facing left, wearing a thin white muslin sari edged with gold and a muslin choli, adorned with jewellery and a garland of flowers around her throat. In her upheld hands she holds a pearl necklace with a pendant set with a large red stone, likely a spinel. The foreground features a terrace balcony inscribed in Persian with the artist’s signature and the date 1188 AH (AD 1774–75), while trees appear in the background.
