Der Lattenberg bei Salzburg (The Lattenberg near Salzburg) is a 1830 ink by Ludwig Richter, a Romanticism work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This black-and-white scene shows a quiet countryside by a river. Two people stand near a small wooden bridge: one holds a walking stick, the other leans on a well. A cow grazes nearby, and a tiny house sits on a hill in the background. Trees line the riverbank, and mountains loom in the distance. The artist used fine lines to show light and shadow, giving the scene depth. The title at the bottom says it’s near Salzburg, but the place looks peaceful and timeless. Want to see more?
