Her artistic inclinations were fostered within her family, as both her sister, Clarissa Peters Russell, and brother-in-law, Moses Russell, were also practitioners of miniature painting. Grozelier refined her skills in painting and drawing at Andover’s Abbott Academy before establishing herself as a portraitist, initially focusing on local sitters.
