This is a black-and-white portrait of a man in old-fashioned clothes. He’s wearing a big hat, a ruffled collar, and a long coat with buttons down the front. One hand rests on his hip, and he holds a folded paper in the other. Behind him, a curtain and a small coat of arms peek out. The artist used fine lines to show the folds in his clothes and the texture of his face. This style is called cross-hatching—lots of tiny lines layered together.
