London
1650
From the collection of Victoria and Albert Museum
London is a 1650 by Unknown, held at Victoria and Albert Museum.
This print shows a bird’s-eye view of medieval London. Thin streets twist past crooked wooden houses. The Thames runs below, crowded with boats. It wasn’t made by someone alive then. The artist used early printing to copy a lost drawing from the 1200s. That makes it one of the oldest pictures of London. Now go see it for yourself at the Victoria and Albert Museum.
A print from around 1650 depicts medieval London, held in the Harry Beard Collection.
