Lucy is a 2018 photographic by Unknown, held at Victoria and Albert Museum.
A woman’s face looks out from an old photo. Colorful threads stitch across her skin and hair like strange tattoos. The threads glow against the faded photo, making her seem half real, half dream. The artist found this photo at a flea market. He glued thread on top, turning a simple portrait into something weirder. The mix of old and new feels off but cool. See it in person at the Victoria and Albert Museum.
A vintage photograph of a woman in a black dress and pearl necklace is overlaid with embroidered threadwork: a yellow oblong shape on the left side of her face contains a small yellow circle representing the left eye, while a black semicircle on the right side features three vertical gold lines and a horizontal gold strip below. The contrasting textures and colors of the threads alter the original image, merging past and present. The work exemplifies the artist's technique of transforming found photographs into layered, three-dimensional compositions.
