maalauslaatikko
1850
From the collection of Helsinki City Museum
maalauslaatikko is a 1850 by Unknown, held at Helsinki City Museum.
This is an open wooden box packed with art supplies. Inside, you see a half-painted canvas with thick, blended colors—mostly blues and greens. Brushes, a palette knife, and small jars of paint are scattered around. There’s also a crumpled rag, a metal tool, and a few crumpled newspaper clippings at the bottom. The box looks used, like it’s been carried around a lot. The paint on the canvas is still wet in spots, and the tools are covered in dried paint splatters. If you like this setup, check out the Museum of Ethnography for more objects like this.
