About this work

This print shows a woman in a fancy dress, posed like a stage actor. Her costume looks like a character from a play called *Pizarro*. The print was made for a publisher named C. Cooke in 1807. The woman is Mrs. Litchfield, but she’s dressed as Zara, a fictional heroine. Prints like this were cheap ways to show popular theater roles at home. Next time you’re in London, check the Victoria and Albert Museum’s prints section.
