Two bats. is a 1824 paint by Unknown, a Romanticism work, held at Victoria and Albert Museum.
This painting shows two bats hanging upside down from a branch. The bigger bat on the left has wide wings and a round face, while the smaller one on the right is curled up with its wings folded. The artist used soft strokes to show fur texture and the bats’ wrinkled skin. The drawing looks like it was made to study nature closely. The bats’ faces and wings are detailed, but the background is just a plain, light color. Next, check out the Victoria and Albert Museum to see more works like this.
Two bat specimens are mounted together in a display. The specimens were collected during Lord Amherst’s embassy to Burma in 1824. They were later presented to a collection by Lady Amherst around 1964.
