This lithograph shows seven pigeons perched on a railing. The birds fill the paper, their feathers detailed in quick, sharp lines. The background stays blank, so the birds stand out plain and clear. Whistler made this in 1896. He liked simple scenes and strong shapes. Lithography lets him work fast, catching the birds’ quick movements.
