Wych Street is a 1877 ink by James McNeill Whistler, a Impressionism work, depicting Street, held at National Gallery of Art.
This is a black and white etching. You see a curving street lined with small buildings. Two figures walk toward you on the left while a horse cart heads away on the right. Whistler often worked in London’s poorer areas. This street was later torn down to build a road. The lines feel quick and loose, not stiff or perfect. You’d get a kick out of his other London scenes. Whistler, James McNeill
James Abbott McNeill Whistler was an American painter in oils and watercolor, and printmaker, active during the American Gilded Age and based primarily in the United Kingdom.
