Here’s a fresh version that meets all the constraints: This painting shows a busy river scene in Dominica. People bathe, wash clothes, and sell goods along the bank. The artist painted both Indigenous Carib and African people in the same space, which wasn’t common at the time. The artist, Agostino Brunias, lived on the island and often painted for wealthy landowners. His work gives us a rare look at daily life in the Caribbean during colonial times.
