Gulli II is a 1918 by Anders Zorn, held at Cleveland Museum of Art.
This is a black-and-white drawing of a woman’s head and shoulders. Her hair is pulled back, and she wears a high-necked dress with loose sleeves. The lines are scratchy and textured, almost like quick strokes. The artist used lots of cross-hatching—tiny overlapping lines—to build up shadows and shape. It looks like they were in a hurry but still got the face just right. Next, check out Anders Zorn to see more of his sketchy, lively portraits.
Anders Leonard Zorn was born in February 1860 in Mora, Dalarna, the illegitimate son of a Bavarian brewer and a Swedish farmer's daughter; his mother died shortly after his birth, and his grandparents raised him.
