Solomon's Idolatry is a 1519 ink by Hans Burgkmair the Elder, a Renaissance work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This woodcut shows a crowded scene with three men in a dim, wood-paneled room. One man kneels, holding a small figure, while another stands behind him, gesturing sharply. The third man, on the right, looks away, his hands clasped. Shadows and light play across the walls, making the figures look dramatic and tense. The artist used sharp lines and deep blacks to create a sense of urgency. Notice how the wood grain of the walls matches the texture of the print—this isn’t paint, but carved wood.
