Peasant with Sack is a 1617 ink by Jacques Callot, a Baroque work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This drawing shows a tired-looking man leaning on a stick. He’s dressed in rough clothes, with a hat pulled low, and carries a bulging sack over one shoulder. Behind him, a rocky hillside and a few bare trees fill the background, while the ground looks uneven and worn. The artist used fine lines to show texture—notice how the man’s wrinkled clothes and the tree bark pop out. This was made as a single print, not painted. Want to see more?
