L'Interieur d'un appartement trop garni... is a 1855 ink by Honoré Daumier, a Impressionism work, held at National Gallery of Art.
Daumier shows a packed room where people sleep on hammocks and benches. The walls look ready to cave in. Lines crowd the scene, making the space feel smaller than it is. This 1855 lithograph poked fun at crowded Paris apartments. Daumier sold prints cheap so workers could afford them. The cross-hatching makes shadows look sharp and real. Honoré-Victorin Daumier was a French painter, sculptor, and printmaker, whose many works offer commentary on the social and political life in France, from the Revolution of 1830 to the fall of the Second French Empire in 1870.
