The story of this work

Overview

The watercolour depicts a mountain landscape where Mary Magdalene, dressed in red, kneels to the right of Christ in a white robe. To the left, two angels sit atop an empty tomb, while two smaller angels fly in the sky above. The work was created in 1862 as a copy for the Arundel Society and later acquired by a museum in 1995 from the National Gallery of London.
