About this work

This print shows a chaotic bullfight scene. A bull charges from the left, its head low and horns sharp. A man in light clothes stands firm, pointing a sword at the bull. Two others nearby look scared—one is tangled with the bull, another clutches a cape. The background is a plain wall, and the whole scene is in black, white, and gray. Notice how the artist uses strong contrasts between light and dark to make the action pop. The man’s white pants stand out against the shadowy figures, drawing your eye to his defiant stance. Check out chiaroscuro to see how artists use light and shadow like this.
