Les Festes du mois de Octobre (October: Saint Luke) is a 1603 ink by Léonard Gaultier, a Baroque work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This engraving shows a busy wine harvest scene in October. A crowd carries baskets of grapes under a bright sun. In the background, workers stomp grapes in big barrels. The artist used tiny lines, called cross-hatching, to shade the image. This makes the scene look deep instead of flat. It is one of twelve prints showing people at work each month. Look up Gaultier, Léonard next.
Léonard Gaultier, or, as he sometimes signed himself, Galter, a French engraver, was born at Mainz about 1561, and died in Paris in 1641.
