Untitled is a 1535 by Giorgio Ghisi, a Renaissance work, held at Victoria and Albert Museum.
This black-and-white print shows a group of five figures in a dimly lit room. A man with a beard holds a glowing candle, casting light on a bed where a woman lies with a baby. Another woman sits nearby, while a child kneels and a standing woman leans over the bed. Shelves in the background hold jars and bottles, and a curtain frames the scene. The candlelight creates strong contrasts, making the figures stand out against the dark background. This effect was a key trick in Renaissance art. Look up chiaroscuro to learn how artists used light and shadow like this.
A patient receives cupping therapy in a print on paper by Giorgio Ghisi, after a design by Giulio Romano from 1535.
