This sketch shows a woman’s face in profile, her hair loose and wavy. She’s turned slightly away, one hand near her mouth as if mid-thought. The lines are quick and rough, with shadows and light playing across her cheek and forehead. The drawing feels unfinished, like a quick study. That’s because it was meant to be part of a series of actor portraits. Toulouse-Lautrec often worked fast to capture expressions. Check out Impressionism for more loose, sketchy portraits like this one.
