Pan and Syrinx is a 1650 oil by Jacob Jordaens, a Flemish Baroque painting work, depicting Pan, held at National Gallery of Armenia.
The painting depicts a scene with Pan, a mythological figure, and Syrinx, a nymph. Pan is shown on the left, wearing a wreath of leaves and holding a reed pipe. He appears to be chasing Syrinx, who is on the right, wrapped in a white cloth. In the foreground, several figures are visible, including a man kneeling with his back to the viewer and a woman looking up at Pan. The background features a cloudy sky and some foliage. The use of chiaroscuro creates a sense of depth and contrast in the painting. To learn more about the artist's use of light and shadow, look up the technique of chiaroscuro.
